Every December the same story plays out. Sometime around October, Australians open a booking site to plan the Christmas escape, discover that the resort they wanted has two rooms left at a price that makes their eyes water, and either pay it or settle for the second choice. It feels like bad luck. It isn't — it's the most predictable pricing event on the travel calendar, and it rewards exactly one behaviour: booking early.
It is late July. Christmas 2026 is five months out and the Australian school holidays run from mid-December through late January. We checked the actual nightly calendars behind every eligible TravelPearls deal, rather than relying on the broad travel windows printed on the offer. Four have worthwhile check-in dates across both December and January. Only one is continuously available across Christmas and New Year, so the exact ranges are set out below.
Why Christmas Punishes Late Bookers More Than Any Other Week
Hotel pricing is demand-driven, and no demand signal in the southern hemisphere is stronger than the Australian summer school holidays colliding with Christmas and New Year. Resorts in Bali, Thailand, and the Maldives know precisely when Australian families can travel, and their revenue systems raise festive-week rates steadily as the remaining inventory shrinks. The published price in December is not the price of the room — it's the price of waiting.
Curated deals sharpen this further. A contract rate is a fixed allocation of rooms pre-purchased from the hotel — when the allocation for a travel window is sold, the deal is done, even if the hotel itself still has rooms at the public rate. Festive-week dates are always the first slice of any allocation to go, because everyone who books a deal with a December-to-January window wants the same three weeks. The from-price on a deal is the starting rate across its whole travel window; peak festive dates typically price above it and, more importantly, sell out first.
There's a second, quieter reason to move early: the deals themselves have deadlines. Samabe's offer closes for bookings on 14 August and Viceroy's on 30 September. Their travel windows stretch deep into 2027, but the window to buy at these rates is much shorter.
Booking Early Is Also the Low-Risk Move
The old argument against booking early — 'what if plans change?' — is less persuasive when the cancellation terms are clear before payment. Check the policy on the individual deal page, secure the dates that matter, and keep a note of the cancellation deadline. If the year runs to plan, you've bought December's most contested rooms before choice collapses. And there's the anticipation dividend: a booked summer holiday pays out months of looking forward to it, which is half the point.
The Deals With Real December and January Availability
Availability checked 26 July 2026. The ranges below are valid check-in dates for each deal's standard package, with open nightly inventory across the full stay — not simply dates that fall inside the advertised travel window. Inventory can change as rooms sell, so use the deal page to confirm your exact stay.
The Christmas and New Year Pick: Sini Vie, Seminyak
This adults-only Bali week is the standout because it is the only deal here with continuous seven-night availability through the whole summer stretch. Check-ins are currently open every day from 1 December through 31 January, including stays spanning Christmas Day and New Year's Eve. For couples who want Seminyak's restaurants and beach clubs with an adults-only pool to come home to, this is the cleanest festive-season choice.
Ubud Before Christmas or After New Year: Viceroy Bali
Viceroy Bali brings private-pool-villa luxury to the Ubud jungle, with daily breakfast, cocktails and a 90-minute massage included. The standard three-night package currently has check-ins from 1–20 December and 5–31 January, with longer stays also available inside those open windows. The resort is closed to deal bookings from 21 December through 4 January. Booking opens shortly, and the offer must be secured by 30 September.

Ubud, Indonesia
Luxury Bali Jungle Escape at Viceroy Bali, Ubud
- Daily breakfast per adult
- 1 x cocktail or mocktail at Pinstripe Bar per adult
- 1 x 90-minute massage per adult
- 10% off total food and beverage bill at Apéritif & CasCades (not valid during special events)
- Complimentary soft drinks and snacks in minibar, replenished once daily
- 1 x 3-course dinner for 2 in CasCades (5-night stay only)
Bali on the Clifftop: Samabe
Nusa Dua's clifftop is Bali at its most polished. Samabe currently has five-night check-ins from 1–16 December and again from 5–31 January, with two to four villas available depending on category. The deal is stop-sold from 21 December through 4 January, so it is a strong early-December or post-New-Year escape rather than a Christmas-week option. Book by 14 August.
The Maldives, All-Inclusive and Overwater
December marks the start of the Maldives dry season, and this private-island escape includes all-inclusive dining and speedboat transfers. The Waterfront Pool Villa currently accepts five-night check-ins from 1–18 December and 10–31 January. Overwater Pool Villa dates are tighter: 1–7 December, 18 December, and 10–31 January. Both categories are closed from 23 December through 9 January, so this is for an early-December or mid-to-late-January Maldives holiday, not Christmas week.
Why the Exact Dates Matter
A deal's travel window tells you when the contract can operate; it does not promise that every night inside that window is open. Stop-sells and blackouts can remove the festive fortnight while leaving excellent availability on either side. That is why Sini Vie is the genuine Christmas option, while Viceroy, Samabe and the Maldives are better choices for early December or January. Choose the dates first, then judge the deal.
The Short Version
For Christmas and New Year, Sini Vie is the clear choice and is currently open throughout December and January. For early December or the post-New-Year school holidays, add Viceroy, Samabe and the Maldives to the shortlist using the exact date ranges above. Samabe closes for bookings on 14 August; Viceroy closes on 30 September. The useful rooms will not become more plentiful by waiting.
Frequently asked questions
When should Australians book their Christmas 2026 holiday?
Now. Five months out is the useful window for securing the exact room and dates you want. Of the deals featured here, Sini Vie is currently the only one continuously available across Christmas and New Year.
Which featured deal is available over Christmas and New Year?
Sini Vie in Seminyak currently has seven-night check-ins open every day through December and January, including stays spanning Christmas Day and New Year's Eve. Viceroy, Samabe and the Maldives have festive closures and should be booked for the open dates on either side.
What happens if my plans change after I book?
Cancellation terms are shown on each deal page before payment and vary by property. Check the notice period for your chosen deal, then keep a note of the cancellation deadline after booking.
Do these deals cover the January school holidays too?
Yes. Sini Vie is open throughout January; Viceroy and Samabe currently accept check-ins from 5 January; and the Maldives accepts check-ins from 10 January. These are actual bookable ranges for the standard packages, not just headline travel-window dates.
